My name is Adam and I’m licensed in both Kentucky (LPCC) and Tennessee (LPC-MHSP) as a professional counselor.
I began my adult life working in youth ministry and did so for several fun years. Those early days of adulthood are remembered fondly as I learned to "adult" with my wife while learning to manage the demands of working in full-time ministry and teaching teenagers.
After working part-time as a counselor for a few years, I began to feel the call to transition into counseling full-time. Since then, I've worked with worried moms, mad dads, and angsty teens. I've helped clients distinguish which voices were real or a just a part of their psychotic condition. I've sat with people as they showed me pictures of their husband, wife, father, or pet that recently passed away last month or 5 years ago. Couples have come to me for help with arguments, decisions, parenting issues, or sexuality concerns. I've helped people replace unhelpful beliefs with beliefs that brought them hope and purpose. Trauma is a frequent visitor in the space of therapy. People have worked to tear down less-than-helpful religious structures they were taught and built more meaningful and true monuments in their place.
No matter what your presenting problem may be, you will be met with care, concern, and empathy as we work together. I view it as an honor and a privilege to work with individuals, couples, and families as they tackle tough and painful experiences and learn to find courage and faith to transform themselves and their relationships.
I am a Christian and that informs my entire worldview and influences all areas of my life. In grad school, counselors are taught to leave all of that "at the door" of the counseling room. But the truth is that we all have a framework in which we move through the world, and I honor and respect whatever framework you bring to the table and will NEVER encourage you to adopt my beliefs, spiritual or otherwise. Spiritual and biblical discussion can be as much a part of your therapy journey as you wish, and I will follow your lead.
I graduated with a BA in Biblical Studies from Freed-Hardeman University with minors in Youth Ministry and Counseling (2012) and earned my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Freed-Hardeman (2015). I have extended trainings in Gottman Method Level 2 Couples Therapy, Affairs, and Grief. I generally work from a Cogntive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) framework. I am a growth-minded person and am always open to new ways and ideas to best serve my clients so that you can live a life filled with joy and peace. I am married with two young daughters. I enjoy woodworking, the outdoors, music, and traveling.
Made Well Counseling originated as an idea based on the question of Jesus to a follower (Found in the gospel of John, chapter 5, verse 6):
"Do you want to be made well?"
The desire to be "made well" is a crucial part of any counseling journey, and I'm eager to work with clients who have that attitude about their own lives.
Life is filled with highs and lows. Marriages, families, and relationships are often fraught with conflict, distance, or disappointments. Plans fail. Depression or grief befalls us and we're not sure what to do. Fears, doubts, and anxieties abound. And while no one can guarantee the success of any treatment or approach, the desire to be made well is the beginning of any journey.
